How to Help Los Angeles

A lot is going on in the digital industry, but, to be honest, as a proud resident of Los Angeles who just saw a large portion of my city burn, it just doesn't seem like the right week. I'll talk about the TikTok ban in next week's edition (which is also a day after the ban will go into effect).

Forgive my break in format this week.

If you want to read about the digital media horse race, I’ll still post hot takes on my LinkedIn.

And because I can’t help myself, shame on all of our leaders who lied and politicized this tragedy on social media for their own personal gain. It made it hard for us to find more authoritative information during one of the worst weeks of our lives.

We won’t forget this.

So many people are hurting, including dozens of peers in the industry who recently lost their homes and all of their possessions.

No, it wasn’t all celebrities and millionaires who lost their homes.

If you have the means to donate, here are some great resources:

Charity Navigator wrote an amazing list of top-rated charities helping now.

World Central Kitchen is back at it, serving meals to those impacted by the fires.

Baby2Baby is doing wonderful work helping impacted kids get the supplies they need.

Best Friends Animal Society (where we got our last dog!) is helping unhoused pets.

And if you’re in LA and need help:

All the info you need is on the LA County website, including ways to sign up for updates and find emergency shelters.

LA Fire Buy Nothing Facebook Group: Give something away or ask for something. This is a non-judgemental zone.

DM me on LinkedIn if you need anything! We’ll announce creator charity events to help with relief efforts soon, so stay tuned.

Let’s be kind to each other this week. Plenty of people in our industry are in the middle of a nightmare, so a little extra leniency and some kind words will go a long way.

Thank you for reading! If you enjoyed this edition, give it a share and if you get someone to sign up, I’ll send you my ‘10 Rep-Friendly Ways to Monetize Today!’ deck!

Until next time, protect yo rep.
