Meta Wants Your Face 🤓

This week was all about Mark Zuckberg's long hair, expensive watches, and his unveiling of Orion, the AR glasses that overlays a digital layer on reality. The tech is being met with rave reviews, and could change the future of content creation and consumption.

What a week for Orion to drop!

I had to travel for personal family stuff so this will be a shorter edition today.

But who can resist covering this year’s Meta Connect, and it was all about hardware. Their stock price is back up as the metaverse garbage was left in the rearview mirror and Meta is now focused on what we all knew to be the real metaverse: a digital layer on our reality.

Let’s get into it.

NEWS:

Nice Glasses, Four-Eyes! No, but seriously…

Meta’s makeover is complete.

Name change, then a cooler-looking CEO, and now the announcement of Orion, the first AR smart glasses that actually feel exciting.

Current aesthetics aside, the idea of having all of the functionality of your phone without the need to constantly crane your neck downward has been a North Star for a while.

Those are some thicc rims!

So now the real question: if we believe Orion-style tech will replace smart phones in the future, what will this mean for your creators?

My hot take: the names of the game are multi-platform, multi-format, and multi-POVed.

Multi-platform: In an AR wearable future, the platforms of the past will still exist but in different ways. YouTube videos will show as a display in the glasses, but challenger platforms may do it better faster. If your clients aren’t doing well multi-platform already, the urgency is increased.

Multi-format: Video will exist, but smart glasses are great for audio. Also AI chatbots. Also interactive media. All should be considered seriously. I remain a firm believer that every large creator should have a podcast.

Multi-POVed: If your client is a tech reviewer, I’m guessing they also have a life outside of your tech reviews. Start encouraging them to show more of themselves, as both audio and interactive content depend more on personalities and less on clickbait.

INDUSTRY HIRING:

Feels Good needs a Content Creator and I’m sure their drug policy is super, super lax.

Meta wants a Director of Metaverse Content, Lifestyle in case your lifestyle involves never participating in real life.

Frank & Eileen is looking for a Digital Content Creator that knows how to rock that coastal grandma vibe.
