2025 Predictions: The Year of 'Monetize Everything'
Prediction #3 for 2025, and I'm only giving you my spiciest. Just to remind you, for the next two Mondays (two already happened), I will present my top four 2025 predictions and the signals I'm seeing that are pushing me in that direction.

A surprising number of people agreed that TikTok wouldn’t be banned in 2025! I thought that would be spicier than that (read it here if you haven’t yet).
Plus, others have since added that to their prediction list. Not accusing of copying. I’m just saying…
This one I know hasn’t been put out there yet.
Let’s dive in.

Platforms will make the barrier to monetization far, far lower
There are amazing podcasts that interview creators about their journeys.
One part story is all-too-common: “I got a my first check from a social platform for $10,000/$100/$.25 and I knew I could do this.”
Understanding the economics of social media is a huge barrier to entry for creators to go all-in.
And platforms are finally starting to realize that.
TikTok Shop’s requirement is only 1,000 followers now.
YouTube is down to 500 subscribers with some basic creation requirements.
I happen to be in the Facebook monetization beta that’s open to 1 million people, and plans to ‘expand widely’ in 2025, where they’re monetizing every video, picture, text post, and poll.
And Elon talks a lot about creator monetization for X, though, quite insanely, decided to require people to pay for an X Premium subscription to monetize (ugh…)
So why will this accelerate in 2025?
AI.
The reason nearly all of these platforms have gone back-and-forth on requirements for monetization is to ensure brand safety.
How many ‘Adpocalypses’ on how many platforms have there been because an advertiser realized their ads were shown alongside literal Nazis?
AI, in its current state, is most effective and most accurate when taking in large swaths of information and actioning on that information quickly.
And it’s going to get multiples better in 2025.
So there will no longer be a defensible barrier to entry for monetization by mid-2025.
Most errors in demonetization are due to the previous logic being flawed due to contextual issues. For example, a video that talks about how to prevent teen suicide will be demonetized for talking about suicide.
AI is far better with context.
When platforms realize they can far more easily ensure accuracy in monetization and demonetization, they’ll start opening their programs far wider to provide their brands with more inventory and assurances.
Then when platforms realize how much more high-quality content is created by every person who realizes they can make $2 by uploading a TikTok, they’ll keep pushing further and further into the longtail.
Get ready for every teen across the globe to not only shoot more videos, but start getting more thoughtful about how many videos they need to make to pay for a PS6 or new Nintendo Switch.
This won’t happen in 2025, but in the near future, this pressure will create even more of a crisis with employers who depend on entry-level positions, as young people realize they can make more as a content farm than as a ride share driver or fast food worker.
